November Birthstones

November Birthstones - Citrine Quartz and Topaz.

As you might know, every month is associated with a particular gemstone, which is referred to as a birthstone. It is a common tradition to gift a piece of jewellery for someone's birthday, which features a birthstone. Citrine Quartz and Topaz are both associated with the month of November, so those born in this month are lucky enough to have two birthstones.

Both gems play a wonderful part of capturing the warm Autumn feeling. The golden hues of the Citrine alike the fallen leaves, contrasting the blue skies symbolised by the Blue Topaz.

Citrine

The name 'Citrine' is derived from the French word 'Citron' which translates as 'lemon', resembling its lemon-like colouring, however, shades can vary from dark amber to brown. Citrine has a Mohs Scale Hardness of 7, indicating that it is very durable which cannot be scratched easily from regular use.

This Gemstone is also given as a gift to symbolise companionship, friendship and happiness. Natural Citrine derives its attractive colour from existing iron impurities.

Topaz

The name Topaz is Sanskrit in origin; which holds the inherent meaning of fire. Often this gemstone is given as a gift to symbolise friendship and to strengthen the capacity to give and receive love.

Topaz has a Mohs Scale Hardness of 8, meaning it is very slightly tougher than the Citrine and just that bit more resistant to cuts and scratches.

Topaz is one of the gemstones which form the foundations of the twelve gates to the Holy City of the New Jerusalem.
